The Board Game about "Making It" in the Movie Biz

WHAT A WRITER WANTS

The three things a Writer needs are: STORY, LUCK and STYLE.

Are you a good storyteller? Do people gather to hear your account of the day's activities? Do you provide a compelling perspective on the ordinary, so it becomes universal truth?

If yes, then go ahead and try your hand at writing screenplays.

Now, when it comes to Luck, you would think that it either happens to you or it doesn't. In fact, Luck is an ability. There are those who end up where things are good and hopping, and those who end up where there's nothing going on. Writers travel in the vortex of activity. Sometimes they stand to the side, as outsiders, and comment on life, but they are never far from the hub.

Ah, Style. Why would a screenwriter need to have style, you ask. Because people without Style are not aware of themselves or their surroundings -- and writers must be if they are going to write anything worth turning into a film. Take the case of someone who has a nasty laugh. Has that person lost the sense of hearing? Does he think that a snarling, huffing noise is anyway to respond to humor?

Likewise with the Writer. If a wannabe screenwriter has no idea how to behave in social situations, what's to say that person will be able to tell a story with insight into the human condition?

Story, represented by the open screenplay, is the power to captivate an audience with comments about characters in action.
LINK SCOUT
How about a site that is well-written and offers a satiric view of the Hollywood scene? HollywoodPulse.comis so realistic in its presentation, that it fooled some reporters over at Fox into believing it presents real stories. But, alas, the stories on this site are all made-up -- and hilarious. If you follow the business and celebrity news in Hollywood, or even if you don't, the articles here are sure to provide a few laughs. Moreover, they demonstrate what it means to captivate an audience and use words to entertain.

Luck, represented by the Ferris Wheel, is the ability to step into favorable situations by happenstance and coincidence, as in "being in the right place at the right time."
