WHAT A PRODUCER WANTS
The three things a Producer needs are: FIGHT, MONEY and WIRES.
When it comes to Fight, we're talking about more than being a bully. The power to be aggressive includes knowing how to assert it. Fight cannot be instilled in someone who doesn't have it to begin with -- but it can be sharpened by those who do.
Do you think of the benefits of a new venture, before the shying away because of the risks? Do you believe that there is little you can't accomplish? Then you have the courage and confidence to be a Producer. Learn the ropes from production assistant to red carpet, and you'll be able to push your movie to conclusion.
As for Money, we mean more than having and spending. As defined in the Conquering Hollywood methodology, Money is the ability to buy things -- and consequently control the people who admire that ability, which is most. It is not the foolish tendency to drop dollars and miscalculate values. Having the ability to buy (or letting them think you do) is often enough to have events turn out your way.
What about Wires? By this term, we mean being connected to the right people. The word "connections" is just too long to fit on a playing chip... But seriously, connections are critical, so cultivate what you have and focus on meeting other powerful producers to imitate and intimidate -- in short, your intimates. Don't forget, also, that making a flick requires tech-savvy, so learn how movies are made or every CGI house in town will have you for lunch.
